It is a mythical beast that stalked Wisconsin's Northwoods at the turn of the last century. Eugene Shepard from Rhinelander capitalized on the rumors by turning the nonexistent mythical animal into a sideshowattraction at the County Fair.
News stories about the ferocious beast spread coasttocoast. But when The Smithsonian came to see the live Hodag Shepard admitted it was a hoax. Over a Century later, my hometown of Rhinelander is still "HOME OF THE HODAGS."
