The Public Service Broadcasting Trust, a notforprofit, nurtured and supported the production of independent documentary films, for over twenty years, mentoring 500+ mostly young, starting out talents. Rajiv Mehrotra, its founding Managing Trustee and Commissioning Editor, with a small team, produced over 700 documentary films travelling to over 1960 film festivals worldwide, winning more than 345 Awards, including 54 National Film Awards from the President of India despite modest budgets that averaged US$ 5000 per halfhour film. PSBT was led by some of India's iconic film personalities Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Mrinal Sen, Shyam Benegal and Sharmila Tagore, with Fali Nariman and Kiran Karnik. It played a seminal role in empowering the documentary film movement in India.
