I grew up in Wisconsin as a progressive republican in the tradition of Fighting Bob La Follette. When we moved to Indiana so I could study at the seminary, I was appalled by the harshness that the republican ideals were applied in the workplace. I was, subsequently, transformed into a socialist. In addition, my studies led me off the spiritual cliff into the atheism abyss.
