Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild started building Waddesdon Manor in 1874 to display his outstanding collection of art treasures and entertain fashionable society. His choice of French chateau style, typical of the Loire valley, surprises many visitors. Rothschild Collections of the highest quality 18thcentury French decorative arts are displayed alongside magnificent English portraits and Dutch Old Master paintings in over 40 elegant interiors.

Outside is one of the finest Victorian gardens in Britain, famous for its parterre and ornate working aviary, and enhanced with classical and contemporary sculpture.

Today, the Manor continues its tradition of entertainment and hospitality with events celebrating food and wine. Visitors can explore Waddesdon's history, collections and gardens through changing exhibitions, talks and tours.
