Russian salad is the queen of salads, it is often on the table on ordinary days and is unavoidable in the Balkans during holidays. There are a lot of recipes, although they are all approximately similar, the nuances are in terms of the ingredients we add. I am bringing you a recipe for a Russian salad that I call perfect because it is really excellent, full of flavor, with all the healthy ingredients preserved due to the way the vegetables are cooked, and a firm structure. The second one is fast but quite good as well. So choose:) And write how you make it:)
RECIPE
1. LONGER RECIPE BUT PERFECT RUSSIAN SALAD
400g of carrots (45 pieces)
400g of potatoes (about 2 pieces)
300g of peas
300g of mayonnaise
1 glass of sour cream
300g cooked ham (pork, chicken meat)
200g of cucumbers
45 eggs
Boil potatoes in their skins so that they don't absorb too much water, clean carrots and boil them in pieces. That way they will retain their full flavors and won't be watery cubes when cut. COOL both, peel the potatoes and cut everything into cubes.
Boil the peas and strain them well. Also cut the boiled eggs, cucumbers and ham into cubes. I like larger ones because different flavors are better felt that way, but you can also use smaller ones. Mix lightly and add mayonnaise and sour cream (you can also add a spoonful of mustard). Spread on top with 100g of mayonnaise. Keep in the refrigerator. Add salt just before serving.
Note: Cooking the vegetables in pieces and not adding salt during the preparation of Russian (just before serving) are the reasons why it is not watery and gooey, and it can (if it is not eaten:) remain the same for several days. The preparation takes longer but it is worth the effort.
2. SPEED RUSSIAN SALAD (or FRENCH)
bag of mixture for Russian salad 400g
2 eggs
3.4 cucumbers
200g mayonnaise (or half mayonnaise, half sour cream)
optional 100g of ham or some other meat (can be without)
Boil the mixture and strain WELL, cool and mix with chopped boiled eggs, cucumbers and ham (optional). Add mayonnaise (with or without sour cream) and mix. Spread mayonnaise on top. Add salt before serving. In this way, the salad is ready very quickly and is also tasty. It is much easier to prepare for each day than the first. For a larger measure, double all the ingredients.
And don't forget, when it's tastiest, it's Mmm BRE!
