Wearing classic pimp shoes, or men's offwhite leather loafers with a snake embroidery, I went to ask for a shoe shine on the streets of historic Mexico City.

Unfortunately, this shoe shiner didn't have white color, or any color that would fit my shoes. He said he could clean my shoes and shine them anyway, which I agreed to.

Valente is 73 years old and has been a shoe shiner for 29 years. He has all my respect.
