Raul has been working 27 years as a shoe shiner on the street at this traditional Indigenous market in Downtown San Cristobal de las Casas.

My brown leather laces up men's dress shoes got cleaned and super shined by Raul, while his wife stood next to us smiling and laughing.

This was a very friendly couple, and I am grateful they welcomed me to document his skills. They asked me to come back and visit another time. I hope I get to do that.

Traveling San Cristobal has been a joy, especially learning more of the Indigenous struggle for equality.
