Today, the Pontiac GTO enjoys widespread notoriety in the automotive world. However, it's not wellknown that it was, in fact, the first true muscle car. It was created by taking a large displacement V8, and shoehorning it into a midsized car body. This combination of a big engine and a small stature made for blistering straightline speed which, at the time, had never been seen on that scale before at the factory level.

As time went on, the GTO sold well in many different variations. However, there are quite a few unique and rare GTOs out there, sporting rare body, motor, and transmission options. Our list will explore the 10 rarest models of what is arguably Pontiac's most popular muscle car, with the Firebird and Trans Am not far behind.
