Icebreaker — a ship with a nuclear power plant, built specifically for use in waters covered with ice yearround. Nuclearpowered icebreakers are much more powerful than diesel. In the USSR they were designed to provide navigation in the cold waters of the Arctic. One of the main advantages of nuclearpowered icebreaker — the lack of need for regular refueling, which is necessary in navigating in ice, when this is not possible or very difficult refueling. All nuclearpowered icebreakers have electrical transmission to propellers. The only country with a fleet of nuclearpowered icebreakers is Russia.
