😳 15 HOURS hiking in the White Mountains 😵 | Wildcats and Carters | NH 48

Peaks 6, 7, 8, 9, & 10 of 48 on our NH 4000 footer journey include Wildcat D, Wildcat A, Carter Dome, South Carter, and Middle Carter mountains. Not only was this a 15 mile day, we also tackled an elective on the Terrifying 25 list, the Wildcat Ridge Trail…and lived to tell the tale! We also decided to throw in a bonus mountain along the way, Mount Hight, which had spectacular 360 degree views, and was perhaps the best part of the entire hike.

Up until this point, we mostly hiked single peak trails but on this day we hit a whopping nine of them. We knew that 15 miles would not be a big deal for us but we did not expect to average one mile per hour. We failed to take into account the constant (and dramatic) changes in elevation.

Going up and down over such a distance is a hiking experience of its own and this trek is not for the faint of heart. Many people who do this traverse will stay over night at the Carter Notch hut which is nestled about half way. We would highly recommend to do this or at least to split these peaks into two separate day trips if you are not an avid hiker. We, as you can see, were less than happy about our preparedness and did not enjoy the trail as much as we had hoped to.

In hindsight we decided to take our emotion and lack of planning out of our rating for this one and settled on an average 8 out of 10 points. In our next video, we will explain how we came to this and which peaks were our most and least favorite!
