15.5 Gauss's Law and Electric Flux | General Physics

Follow
Chads Prep

Chad provides a lesson on Gauss's Law and Electric flux. He first provides the definition of electric flux relating it to the magnitude of the electric field, the area of a surface, and the orientation of the electric field to the surface. He then demonstrates that the net electric flux of an enclosed surface with no net charge inside is zero. This provides a good introduction to Gauss's law which states that the net electric flux through an enclosed surface is proportional to the total charge inside the surface. Chad concludes the lesson by solving two Gauss's law practice problems: one showing how Gauss's law can be used to calculate the electric flux and the second showing how Gauss's law can be used to calculate the magnitude of the electric field.
