Chad provides a brief summary of the effects that aromaticity can have on SN1 reactions and acid and base strength. Cyclic conjugated carbocation intermediates may be either aromatic or antiaromatic either speeding up or slowing down an SN1 reaction respectively. Similarly, some cyclic nonaromatic acids may have aromatic conjugate bases. This leads to significant stabilization of the conjugate base thus greatly increasing the strength of the conjugate acid.
