This short 1940s Navy training film, TF 113046, shows viewers (who would have been U.S. Navy sailors or recruits) how a sailor can quickly lose his hardearned pay. The film follows Bill Adams, an arrogant sailor who cashes his paychecks and keeps the money on him in an apparent effort to flaunt his wealth. The film opens in the sleeping quarters of a navy ship where a group of sailors are settling debts. The men then go ashore (01:33), and Adams, who has 7 months pay in his wallet, and a friend go sit at a counter in a café for lunch. Later, Adams goes his own way and starts drinking heavily. He eventually makes his way to the Bulldog Café bar, where he stands outside smoking a cigarette. Inside the bar, an inebriated Adams tells war stories to a group of people and is oblivious to a woman stealing his roll of cash. The film ends with a drunk Adams sitting at the counter of the first café, destitute as he is broke and missed his ship’s departure. He's now AWOL and S.O.L.
