1965 MKT Denison Texas After Passenger Service Ended

Follow
Timetable

1965 MKT discontinued passenger service. Passenger equipment was stored at MKT Ray Yard in Denison waiting disposition. Mingled with the stills of the cars in storage are 8mm film clips of a portion of the last passenger trains the Katy operated. This was certainly a very sad time for Katy employees who had enjoyed working on passenger trains. Many of these employees ranked high enough on the seniority roster to bump back into freight service and not lose employment. Possibly, other Katy employees were effected dining car service, passenger agents, accounting as well as employees associated with locomotive service. Other Class 1 railroads would follow the Katy to finally end passenger service about 1969 1970. Lastly, images of the Katy passenger depot 1975.
