1984 Cycling the Pacific Coast Highway: America's Most Scenic Road

In 1984, I needed to break out and expand my bike touring adventures. So I packed up my bike and my gear and boarded an airplane for Los Angeles, California with a plan to ride the Pacific Coast Highway, from LA, north. Big mistake. The wind howls out of the north along the coast most days during the summer. Oh well. It was still a great ride. In my opinion, the Pacific Coast Highway is the most scenic road in America. There is so much to see. For me, the best part was along the Big Sur coastline. Incredible! San Francisco was a treat. The coastal Redwoods in northern California was amazing. I met up with a fellow bike tourist north of San Francisco named Renado and ended up riding with him for about 11 days, almost to Missoula, Montana. I ended my trip in Missoula. Thanks for coming along.
