Palitana, a city in the Bhavnagar district of Gujarat, has become the first city in the world to ban nonvegetarian food. The sale and consumption of meat and butchering of animals are now illegal and punishable by law in the city. Palitana, nestled around the Shatrunjaya Hills, is a significant Jain pilgrimage site with over 800 temples. It is known as the “Jain Temple Town.”
