We all love to play blast beats, but how do we strengthen our weak hand to play them stronger, more efficiently, and for longer periods of time? Something so difficult may be as simple as using your weaker hand while doing everyday things (eating, driving, turning door handles). When practicing you want to be sure to lead with your weak hand in exercises because ideally each hand should be as strong as the other. (In a perfect world)

In this drum lesson video I break down and include two exercises to help increase the strength in your weak drumming hand. While the first exercise is very basic, you may want to slow the tempo down less than 80 BPM to really try and lock in your time so that you can master your feel. Remember to walk before you run.

The second exercise I found difficulty in playing, and that just goes to show that we are human. No one is perfect. This exercise is difficult because the hands switch lead after the turn around, and the feet are simultaneously playing the same pattern under the hands. Don’t get frustrated. Take it slow, and your speed will come with repetition at slower tempos over longer periods or time.

Most importantly have fun, and intemperate it as your own by creating your own exercises.
