2023-09-11 A800 brushless v2! first flights

Steve Gergetz

Recently updated the brushless conversion of my old XK A800, and today I'm flying it for the first time. Also fun is that I'm flying it with my new Radiomaster TX16S, which is an awesome transmitter.

Sorry it's 14 minutes of video with only 8 minutes of flight, and it's not the most exciting flight. But some might find it interesting, and I comment here and there about how I got to where I'm at now with it, and how it's flying with the new motor and prop.

2018 bought my A800, loved it, but hated the brushed motor
2019 converted it to brushless, but poor motor & prop setup
Mothballed it till this week
2023Sept. updated the motor & prop, and HERE WE GO!!

• Remember that it will probably be too much work to try to make the existing control board work with the brushless setup. That stock control board includes the Rx, the flight stabilization, the ESC, and 2 of the 4 servos, and it is only designed to output to a brushed motor. So I just yanked it, got a separate ESC, separate Rx, and 2 separate servos for the elevator and rudder. It's more components, but fitting them in isn't too bad, and it's a better setup.

Here are the parts, though I'm not claiming these links are the cheapest or the fastest delivery or anything like that:
• A600 motor

• A600 motor back plate & motor mount base (lower right and upper left in the image):

• A600 prop, prop center screw, prop mount, prop mount screws (3):

• A600 Hitec ESC (unless you have an ESC you are confident will be compatible):

• Rx:

• A600 servos (2) for elevator and rudder (because on the stock A800 they are incorporated onto the one flight control board...which you'll need to yank out):

• Finally, keep in mind that there may be a screw, or connector, or some other little tidbit I'm forgetting to include. Sorry...but I just didn't have a 100% complete bill of materials to share. Some of it I just figured out and cobbled together as I went. But let me know in the comments below if any specific questions, and I'll try to answer!
