It wasn't that long ago that a ute / pickup would generally be considered a work vehicle and nothing more. Oh, how times have changed, so much so that the 2024 Ford Ranger has added another string to its bow in the form of a new nonRaptor flagship, the aptly named and luxuryfocused Platinum.

The Platinum nameplate may be new to the Ranger, but it's not new to Ford, which continues to use it on the mechanically related Everest large SUV to this day. Needless to say, the highend similarities between the new Ranger Platinum and the established Everest Platinum are numerous.

But does Australia really need a premium alternative to the Toyota HiLux? It didn't work out so well for the MercedesBenz XClass, after all. In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Byron Mathioudakis puts the Ranger Platinum through its paces to find out.
