Fans of the Cclass sedan will find much to like about the new CLE coupe, which bundles the best of the fourdoor under a sleek wrapper.

Overview
At one point, MercedesBenz had coupe and convertible variants for the Cclass, Eclass, and Sclass. Now, in the process of trimming the lineup, Mercedes has blended the first two together, and the result is the 2024 CLEclass. With a footprint similar to the old Cclass coupe, two available powertrains, and all manner of standard cabin tech, the CLEclass carries all the latest and greatest features Mercedes has to offer in a slick twodoor form factor. Models wearing the CLE300 badge are powered by a 255hp turbocharged fourcylinder while CLE450s get a 375hp turbocharged inlinesix. When the CLEclass goes on sale, which we expect will be sometime toward the end of 2023, it will go headtohead with rivals such as the Audi A5 and the BMW 4series.

What's New for 2024?
The CLEclass is brand new for 2024, although the idea of a lineupspanning twodoor is no stranger to Mercedes, having sold the CLKclass for over a decade.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The CLEclass comes with one of two powertrains. The CLE300 carries a turbocharged 2.0liter inlinefour, which is good for 255 horsepower and 295 poundfeet of torque, while the CLE450 bumps that up to a turbocharged 3.0liter inlinesix producing 375 horsepower and 369 poundfeet of torque. A ninespeed automatic transmission is standard on both models. Both powertrains are 48volt hybrids, incorporating an electric motor that can add up to 23 horsepower and 148 poundfeet of torque, as well. Both the CLE300 and the CLE450 are limited to a top speed of 130 mph. We got a chance to test drive both the CLE300 and CLE450 for ourselves and came away happy with their performance, but the models we drove had Europeanspec suspensions that aren't representative of what MercedesBenz will sell in North America. When get a chance, we'll test a CLE on our home turf and update this story with driving impressions and test results.

Fuel Economy and RealWorld MPG
Neither MercedesBenz nor the EPA have released fuel economy estimates for the CLEclass yet, but when we find out the new car's mpg ratings we’ll update this story with those details. We'll also get a chance to take the CLEclass on our 75mph highway test route which will give us an idea of the car's realworld fuel economy.
