1883년부터 1926년까지 ‘클로드 모네’가 43년 동안 이곳에서 작품 활동을 하면서 마지막 생애를 마친 곳으로, 꽃이 만발한 정원과 연못은 ‘인상주의‘ 화가들의 그림을 좋아하는 세계의 관광객이 성지순례처럼 지나가는 곳으로 유명하다.

인상파에 관심이 있다면, 인상파의 거장 ‘클로드 모네’의 생가가 있는 곳으로 더욱 알려진 ‘지베르니’를 방문해 보자. 파리에서 서쪽으로 76킬로미터 떨어진 ‘모네’의 집 지베르니!!! 매년 50만 명 이상의 관광객이 다녀가고 있으며 많은 예술가들이 정착하고 싶어하는, ‘일 드 프랑스’와 ‘노르망디‘ 지방의 경계에 위치한 조그만 마을 ‘지베르니’….

‘인상주의’ 화가 ‘모네’의 대작 ‘수련’의 배경이 되는 이곳은, 파리에서 서.북쪽으로 70킬로미터 떨어져 있고, 오가는 길이 파리의 분위기와는 전혀 다르다. 센느강 하류를 따라서 석회 암반층을 파고 들어간 집들과 절벽을 지나면서 마주치는 경치는 왜 ‘모네’가 이 곳에 정착하게 되는지, 그 이유를 느낄 수 있는 아름다움을 간직하고 있다.

1966년 ‘모네’의 아들이, 미술학교에 기증했던 ‘모네’의 작품들은 현재, OECD 사무국에서 가까운 파리 16구의 ‘마르모탕 박물관’에 전시되고 있다. 작업실과 아름다운 정원, 수련이 있는 연못을 먼저 방문한 후에 박물관에서 그의 작품들을 감상하는 것을 강추!!

From 1883 to 1926, Claude Monet spent 43 years here, where he worked and spent the last days of his life. The flowerfilled garden and pond are famous as a pilgrimage site for tourists from all over the world who love the paintings of the Impressionist painters.

This place, which is the background of the masterpiece “Water Lilies” by the Impressionist painter Monet, is 70 kilometers west and north of Paris, and the atmosphere of the road to and from there is completely different from that of Paris. The scenery you encounter as you pass by houses dug into the limestone rock and cliffs along the lower reaches of the Seine River retains the beauty that allows you to feel why Monet settled here.

Monet's works, donated to the art school by his son in 1966, are currently on display at the Marmottan Museum in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, near the OECD office.
