Check out how I restored this old rusty knife including metal etching.

This old chopper was used to prune stubborn garden plants, but it definitely hasn't been used in a while.

The Restoration Process:
I started by removing the knife from the handle. The handle itself was in good condition, but years of use had put a strain on the ferrule. I removed the original metal ferrule by simple sawing it off.
I sanded down the handle using 120 grit sandpaper, lightly rubbing down to take off the top layer. I love the original patina on this handle so left it unprotected to bring out it's true colours.
The knife needed rust removal treatment, and was left in a solution overnight to remove the worst of the rust. I then used 80 grit sand paper to remove pitting, which turned out to be very deep. Sadly i had to remove the original logo so decided to add it back on at the end of the restoration.
To add the logo back on, i recreated the original Spear and Jackson logo in Photoshop, and used this to create an adhesive stencil. Cold blue was used to paint over the stencil, leaving the original logo etched in place.
The handle, ferrule and blade were reattached using a strong Epoxy, and left overnight to dry..

I'm really please with the final restored knife, and hope you enjoyed watching the process!
