3 Modules #77: Marbles Maths Rings

Comparative Irrelevance

The idea here is to make a swing rhythm by using Maths to create a clock signal where every second pulse is delayed.

Patch notes:

I've set Maths' channel 4 to cycle, and I'm using the EOC as my "base clock". The Fall knob controls the clock speed, and the Rise knob is set to 0 in order to keep the EOC triggers very short. This base clock is sent to the channel 1 trigger input, and to the channel 3 input for further use.

Channel 1 is not set to cycle, it simply responds to the base clock triggers. For each trigger, the envelope rises, then outputs an EOR pulse and resets. In other words, the Rise knob controls how long the delay between the incoming trigger and the EOR pulse is. I have the Fall knob set to 0 to minimize the EOR pulse duration and reset time. The EOR output is sent to channel 2 to be mixed with the base clock.

Making sure not to add any of the envelope signals from channels 1 and 4 (these can safely be set to negative values), I'm using Maths' OR output to combine the base clock and the delayed clock pulses. By adjusting the delay time, it's possible to dial in varying amounts of "lag" for every second pulse. Ranging from extremely tightly spaced flams, to swing rhythm, to just "slightly off".

The final clock signal from Maths is patched to Marbles' clock input (on the tsection). This is then used as the basis for all of Marbles' sequencing: I'm using the coin toss algorithm to drop occasional triggers, the Jitter control to introduce more randomness, and the X outputs to sequence Rings' pitch and Position. I also have the X1 output patched back into Marbles' Spread input to make nondestructive variations in the sequences. This is the slowest stepped sequence output (it only changes when the regular sequence drops a trigger), so these changes happen over longer periods.

Bonus:

Coincidentally, the leftover t outputs on Marbles happen to fit perfectly for a kick drum/hihat pattern, so I've quickly patched that up at the end by adding Peaks for the drum sounds.
