Today's video covers rehab exercises that can be used to test and improve your neck mobility. Whether you are recovering from an injury or simply looking to optimize health of the musculoskeletal system, maintaining full joint mobility is an important element.
When we think of joint mobility in the neck, we want to consider how the seven vertebrae that make up this region work together to create full range of motion. Because the spine moves in all three planes of motion (sagittal, frontal and transverse), we must consider the movements that correspond to these planes.
In the neck we have:
Sagittal Plane: Flexion & Extension
Frontal Plane: Right & Left Sidebend
Transverse Plane: Right & Left Rotation
The normal range of motion for these movements are demonstrated in this video and listed below.
Flexion: 6080°
Extension: 7075°
Sidebend: 4045°
Rotation: 80°
