Until recently, there was no harmonized definition of ‘a city’ for Asia and other countries as well. This undermined the comparability, and thus also the credibility, of crosscountry analysis of cities. To resolve this problem, in this video, the term of city is defined by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs under United Nations as urban agglomeration. That is a highly developed spatial form of integrated cities. It occurs when the relationships among cities shift from main competition to both competition and cooperation.
As the world continues to urbanize, a handful of countries will account for much of the growth. Urban areas are the home of over 60% of inhabitants in #WestAsia. Teheran, Ankara, Jiddah, Tel Aviv, and Kuwait are the largest cities in the region.
