The Distributive Property states that multiplying a "sum by a number" is the same as multiplying "each addend by the number", and then "adding the products together". We multiply by breaking apart one of the factors into addends, multiplying each addend, then we add their products together. We see examples of breaking apart the objects in each group, or breaking apart the number of groups.
