4 Changes YOU Need to know - World of Hyatt’s 2024 Category Changes EXPLAINED

Major changes coming to Hyatt’s hotel categories in 2024. With 183 properties affected, it’s crucial for families to understand these changes and how they might impact your future stays.

1. Hyatt Certificates Getting Weaker: Hyatt’s Milestone Rewards are becoming more meaningful by giving members a choice at most milestone tiers. However, the introduction of a Category 8 tier means that you will still only earn a Category 17 free night award at 60 nights.
2. AllInclusives Becoming Too Expensive for Families: Inflation has hit the Caribbean hard, with prices for the cheapest group of allinclusive resorts jumping about 20% in the last year2. This could make allinclusive resorts less affordable for families.
3. Continuous Devaluations for Popular Hotels: 137 hotels are moving into higher categories, making them more expensive in terms of points. This includes popular redemption hotels such as The Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa, Park Hyatt Washington D.C., and The Grayson Hotel in New York City.
4. Colorado Snow properties continue to see changes with popularity. In 2023, the Grand Hyatt and Park Hyatt rose one category. This year we have the Hyatt Centric and Vail Residence also rising.

Our family is based on the west coast so you might see a bit of a west coast bias below :)

Here are some positives from the changes:
1. California getting their first category 1 hotel for mattress running needs in the future
2. Alila Encinitas bumping back to Category 7 which means we have another property to use our certificates
3. MANY properties in Japan that are changing this year are going down vs up.

TIP Make advance bookings now with either your points or the Globalist advance booking perk. This will let you hold reservations at the OLD rate after March 26, 2024.
