4 Effective Bebop Scale Fingerings for Jazz Guitar Scale Patterns

Bebop scales are a great tool to add chromaticism to jazz solo and to get more 'fluid' linear playing in jazz improvisation. On the guitar, however, bebop scales can be daunting.

In this video lesson, we take a look at four very important bebop scale fingerings. Each fingering is "diagonal" in nature and can be repeated on several octaves with natural slides/shifts.

The bebop scales and modes in the video are:

The basic C major bebop scale, which is simply the C major scale with an added note.

The Dm7 dorian bebop, which is like D dorian with an extra added step. This fingering is interesting since it starts with the 4th finger.

The G7 mixolydian bebop scale, which is, once again, exactly like G mixolydian, but with an added note.

Lastly, we'll cover C minor bebop scale, which goes like this: C D Eb F G G# A B. Notice that this exactly the same as C major bebop except for the Eb note.
