A mother agency is the first agency you sign with. They typically help you learn the industry and build your portfolio, as well as give you guidance you need to succeed as a model. If your mother agency believes in your potential, they can partner with other agencies in different market to get you more work and exposure in other cities. For instance a mother agency like Few Models in Lagos, Nigeria could partner with Elite Model Management to get their models work in fashion capitals like New York, Paris, Milan, etc. Other types of modeling contracts are Exclusive, NonExclusive, and OneTime Only contract as explained in this video.
