Ameyoko (アメ横), short for AmeyaYokocho (アメヤ横丁) meaning "candy store alley", is a bustling market street located along the Yamanote Line tracks between Okachimachi and Ueno stations in Tokyo. This shopping district is known for its wide array of goods, from fresh seafood and dried foods to clothing and cosmetics. Historically, Ameyoko was known for selling candies and also served as a black market dealing in American goods postWorld War II. Today, it's a popular spot for both locals and tourists seeking bargain and enjoying the lively atmosphere. This market is also a popular destination for authentic street food such as Takoyaki, savory balls of batter filled with octopus, Karaage, Japanese fried chicken and Yakitori, grilled chicken skewers, daifuku mochi and fruit stalls. With over 400 shops, Ameyoko offers a unique shopping experience that reflects the diverse culture and history of Tokyo.
