You can expect to see plum blossom in Kyoto from earlyFebruary to beginning of March, and every year people celebrate them as they herald the start of spring.
Kyoto boasts a rich variety of plum blossoms scattered on the grounds of many temples & shrines.
t’s amazing when you take a stroll along the plum garden paths and smell the sweet fragrance coming off the ume petals.

京都の梅は、2月中旬から3月上旬に見頃を迎えます。中国から入ってきた梅は京都で咲き、花と言えば梅と言われるほど平安時代初期までは、桜より梅の方が愛されていました。とくに梅をこよなく愛した菅原道真を祀る北野天満宮では、京都でも梅の名所。約2,000本の梅が植えられています。ですが枝垂れ梅の美しさでは城南宮が人気。150本のしだれ梅がうすべに色や紅白の花を装い、梅林を通り過ぎる場所では、しだれ梅と落ち椿の景色も楽しむことができ、春の訪れを感じさせます。
