We can make and describe patterns of numbers by finding or using a rule to follow. We look at the given rule to create a pattern. We can also find a rule by looking for a pattern from the given numbers. The rule of a pattern may have more than one operation. Each number or object in the pattern is called a term. We need at least 3 terms to find the rule if there is one operation in the rule. We need at least 5 terms to find the rule if there are two operations in the rule. We identify rules for patterns and their first terms. We solve two word problems involving patterns of numbers.
