511. Should I Embellish? Fluid Art Southwest Series Sedona!

Follow
Waterfall Acrylics

Inspired by the colors of the rocks and sky after sunset in Sedona, and with the use of This Little Piggy pigment colors in Syrah and Hammerhead, this fluid art painting looks like freshly unearthed Amethyst and Quartz! Super happy with the color palette and overall look, but I think this painting might be a good candidate for some embellishmentsmaybe fiber paste or some crackle ground...or maybe I just leave it as is. This is part 2 of a series using Southwest colors, so more to come! Let me know your opinion in the comments, and thanks for watching!

THE RECIPE:

House Paintbase aka puddle for the substrate: Benjamin Moore sample pots in satinseveral pale warm yellows mixed together..

Pouring Medium aka PM Recipe: mix with all colors EXCEPT the cell activator:

Behr 8300 Untinted Deep Base Paint (Home Depot); and Valspar High Gloss Ultra Base C Untinted base (Lowe's). 50/50. Mix well. NO varnish added!

Use the colors and brands of your choice! These tutorials are meant to educate and inspire! Here's how to mix:

Pigments: For a 3 oz cup I add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of pigment powder to the cup, then add enough gloss varnish (any brand; I use JoSonja gloss varnish) to cover the powder. Mix well until all pigment is thoroughly wet; then add the pouring medium.

Any brand fluid or high flow acrylics: I put about 22 1/2 ounces of the pouring medium into a 3 ounce cup, then squirt in color until I reach my desired shade. Mix well.

For tube paint, I added an 1/2 ounce of paint (1/2 teaspoon) to a 3 ounce cup, then added 2 ounces of pouring medium. If still thick I add a squirt of Golden's High Flow Medium (thins and extends acrylic colors) and stir well. All pigments are 1/8th tsp. predisbursed with a small amount of JoSonja Varnish to wet it (stir really well), then add into a 3 oz. cup of Pouring Medium; stir well.

Cell Activator/Color: Australian Floetrol + Amsterdam Lamp Black 2.5 1 ratio Floetrol to paint.
