A Loaded Gondola Train With 5 Locomotives Did Not Have Enough Power To Get Up The Steep Hill. A Helper Locomotive Goes Down The Hill & Shoves The Rear Of The Train Up The Grade. Watch all 6 locomotives working hard to get the loaded freight train up Ludlow Hill out of the Ohio River valley. Sand was used for traction and we see a closeup of the sand after the train passes the railroad crossing near the top. After we see that train we get to see a couple more trains on the hill. The second train was a shorter train going up the hill. Right after it passed me a third train went by me going down the hill.
Notice all the different locomotives on the first train. The engine that went down the hill to help get the train up had just been rebuilt and repainted. I gave some information on the locomotive in the video. That locomotive was dispatched from Erlanger Yard to go down the hill and help push the train load of steel slabs up the hill. That train had a BNSF unit leading and had engine #4000 as the third unit. I rode here with @1960gambit to show him the steep grade and we got lucky to get that heavy train that needed the 6th unit.
