6 Requirements for the 482 Visa

With skill shortages in Australia, the closure of the easy 408 visa, and the low levels of allocations and invites for points visas. It seems like everyone wants to get a 482 work visa.

Requirements:

Number 1: the employer must apply to become an approved sponsor 

This includes being in a financial position to pay the wages to have no adverse records and agreeing to several sponsor obligations.  

Number 2: to nominate a position on the relevant approved list

If the position is not on the approved list for a 482 visa program, then there may be a possibility under a labour agreement. 

Number 3: Nomination requires advertising

Unless an exemption applies, the employer must do labour market testing to show that the position can't be filled by an Australian citizen or permanent resident.  

Number 4: Costs to the employer

The employer must pay a salary at or above the TSMIT which is currently $70,000 a year, and also must pay a salary that's equivalent to what an Australian citizen or permanent resident would get paid to do that position. 

The employer must also pay the costs associated with the first two stages: Sponsorship, which is $420, and nomination fee, which is $330. There is also a Skilling Australia Fund fee to be paid for each year of the nomination. The SAF is $1,200 a year for businesses with a turnover of less than 10 million or $1,800 per year for a business if a turnover is more than 10 million. 

Number 5:

Visa application requirements

The skills requirements for the applicant include that the applicant must have the skills and experience to do the position. The minimum experience requirement is two years of fulltime post qualification experience 

Overseas qualified tradespersons also need to do a skills assessment in many cases. 

Number 6: Visa Applicant English standards  

There is an English language requirement which is slightly different for the shortterm and the mediumterm streams. 

For the shortterm stream. There's an overall band score of at least five with a score of not less than 4.5 and each component of the IELTS

In the mediumterm stream, there's an overall band score of at least five with a score not lower than five in each of the four components of the IELTS test.

Why do employers bother with employersponsored migration? The main reason is to secure employees for hardtofill positions. 

So why do the applicants bother to work in Australia, but also to have a path to apply for permanent residency after two years.
