After a 2 year long overhaul which suffered many setbacks and delays, the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust’s new build Peppercorn A1 Pacific, No. 60163 Tornado, finally made a return to service, making her much rescheduled visit to the Nene Valley Railway.

The engine bowed out of service in January of 2022, with intention of a full overhaul aiming to be complete by the end of that year. This would not only see an overhaul of the locomotive itself, but included the fitment of the new ETCS signalling system, with Tornado becoming the first steam locomotive to see this addition. The engine would also be repainted back into Apple Green. The fitment of ETCS, alongside other issues including repairs to the boiler, would not see the engine return until August of 2024, running in at the Great Central Railway, before moving to the Nene Valley Railway to meet the engines prior commitments.

Captured on the second weekend of the A1's running at the railway, hauling 4 service trains along the full length of the line, from Wansford to Yarwell, then to Peterborough and back to Wansford, the engine is seen at various locations along the line on what was a gloomy day where the rain thankfully held off throughout the day. Look forward to seeing this engine back on the mainline when able.
