Follow
The Video Nerd

You should be careful when using copyright free music because some songs are only safe on Twitch and not on YouTube, and others require you to give attribution so let's discuss some great DMCA free music sources for streamers.

0. Why very little sources are safe for YouTube
YouTube has something called the 'Content ID'. Basically, when you have a video up, YouTube checks if any of the songs you used are in Content ID. If it finds a match with, let's say, a StreamBeats song (which is YouTube safe), then all is fine because Harris Heller (the owner of StreamBeats) allows everyone to use StreamBeats songs and he made sure that all songs are in the content ID and 100% safe/unique before he launches them.
HOWEVER, not all providers of DMCA free music have added their songs to the content ID. Some just say; I made the song and you can use it.
BUT, if next year, someone decides to take that song and put it into the YouTube Content ID and say that it's theirs, then that person has the power to copyright strike everyone who ever used that song. THAT'S SCARY.
SO make sure that the songs you use on YouTube streams or in videos, are from a very credible source that states that their songs are in the Content ID system and that they are SAFE.

1. NO COPYRIGHT SOUNDS (Twitch) (Free)
Most gamers know NCS from the popular song 'Faded' back in the day, and No Copyright Sounds is still going strong. They allow you to use their songs on stream as long as you give credit by linking to their Spotify profile, in your stream's description.

2. STREAMBEATS (Twitch & YouTube) (Free)
StreamBeats is only around a year old and it's made by youtuber Harris Heller. He started with LoFi music and is now expanding into more genres as well as making video clips for some of the songs. All these songs are great, DMCAfree, you can use them on Twitch and on YouTube and more songs are being added faster and faster. Great source for copyright free music.

3. PRETZEL ROCKS (Twitch & YouTube) (Free & Premium)
This is by far the biggest library of free songs for content creators out there. With more than 300K songs that are safe for Twitch and cover 5K for YouTube (and more than 1M that are queued to be released on their platform) you HAVE to check this out. The free version requires you to use their bot which posts links to songs in your chat, which isn't a big deal when you realize what you get for it. Amazing service.

4. MONSTERCAT (Twitch & YouTube) (Premium)
This has been out there for a long time. Mostly (if not all) electronic music. If that's what you're into, then you're getting A LOT in return for $5 per month at the time of writing this.

5. TWITCH SOUNDTRACK (Twitch) (Free)
Made by Twitch, only for Twitch, not really a fan favorite and mutes the music in all your VOD's. I had to put this in since the list wouldn't be complete without it, but check out these other options..

6. EPIDEMIC SOUND (Twitch & YouTube) (Premium)
This is what I use for my YouTube videos. It's great stream music, great video music and it also has sound effects and background soundscapes for documentaries etc. If you consider yourself a content creator in general, instead if 'just' a streamer, then check this out because it offers you a lot.

7. OWN3D MUSIC (Twitch) (Free)
At the moment of writing this, Own3d music only has LoFi music. To the extent of my knowledge, they aren't entering their songs in the YouTube Content ID yet, so I'd only trust using them on Twitch. Great songs and lots are being added every week.
