The 737 earned the nickname "Baby Boeing" for a very good reason, as it was the smallest jet airliner Boeing ever designed. Envisioned in 1964 as a complement to the slightly larger 727 trijet on shorthaul routes to small airports, it went on to become the bestselling commercial aircraft of all time despite the fierce competition it faces even until this day.
