Other than jaw dropping scenery, the Laguavegur and Fimmvörðuháls trail is amazing for the flexibility tent campers can have in their itinerary, which can be critical given the volatile weather throughout the hiking season. While I got rained on a few times, I really lucked out overall, but was grateful for the options I had to start earlier or later as needed.

Two additional tips not in the video: 1) Take advantage of the epic dayhiking and the wide variety of accommodations in Thórsmörk (including a sauna!) by staying there two nights. 2) Even with hiking the Fimmvörðuháls trail in one day, I still had plenty of time to make it back to Reykjavík on the busa better option than staying in Skogar. But truly a wonderful hike all around. I hope you enjoy!
