858 Global Talent Visa Australia Updates May 2024

Better EOI processing times:
Expressions of Interest (EOI) are now being decided within 34 months. This is an improvement on the EOI processing times, last year the processing times reached 68 months.

Those who clearly does not meet the parameters of the Global Talent Visa may get a receive an unsuccessful EOI decision earlier.

Current processing time:
The current processing time for the Global Talent Visa Global Talent (invited) pathway is now between 9 to 12 months.

The Distinguished Talent pathway is currently being processed between 28 to 33 months.

But every application is different, and some are being processed quicker for example because the applicant is a very strong applicant and/or they have submitted a “decisionready” application. Some applications may take longer if the case officer request for more information.

We earlier had an application that was decided within 5 months, and we did received requests for further documents or information. The applicant was working in the Circular economy sector, a sector which is not get as many applications than other sectors like for example Digitech.

Possible changes to the Global Talent Visa Program:
The Australian government released the Government’s Migration Strategy last December 2023. This strategy outlines their policy roadmap in regard to migration and contains the Government’s key actions, policy commitments and areas for future reform.

One of the reforms or changes flagged in this Migration Strategy is the possible change to the Global Talent and Business Visas. One of the things the Government is considering is “developing a new Talent and Innovation visa to drive growth in sectors of national importance”. This new Talent and Innovation visa is said to be designed “to create a single, streamlined pathway to attract a relatively small number of highly talented migrants to Australia such as high performing entrepreneurs, major investors and global researchers.”

Those who have received a successful EOI decision may have to consider lodging their subclass 858 visa application sooner than later because of this potential change.
