Urdhva Dhanurasana can be challenging to get into, especially if you’re a beginner or practicing at home. But don’t write it off altogether! We’ve got some modifications to help you access this pose.

In this tutorial, we’re taking a different approach to URDHVA DHANURASANA / UPWARD BOW POSE from Ashtanga Yoga’s Primary Series, showing you how you can access the movements of this pose if you’re a beginner. Getting into this pose can be tricky for a lot of people since it requires both flexibility and strength in the shoulders, so we share modifications and progressive steps you can try as you slowly work toward deepening your backbend.
