Today we'll be demonstrating on this 1/700 kit from Tamiya of the US Navy Portlandclass Heavy Cruiser USS Indianapolis (CA35). Laid down in 1930, the "Indy" had a long & outstanding service record with the US Navy & … she earned 10 battle stars during the fierce fighting in the Pacific Theater of WWII, and she even served as the flagship of Admiral Raymond Spruance's 5th fleet from 1943 until 1945.

The Indianapolis is perhaps most wellknown, however, for her tragic demise just weeks before the end of hostilities in the Pacific. On July 30th, a Japanese Submarine struck the Indy with two torpedoes which caused catastrophic damaged & sunk the mighty vessel in a matter of minutes. The harrowing fate of the Indianapolis returned to public's attention with the release of JAWS in 1975… as one of the main characters, Quint, was depicted as one of those few Indy sailors who survived to tell the tale.
