The author of the screenplay is Gaston Méliès , the director's brother, while the lead role is given to Manuel , who one supposes may also have played a role in directing the film. The beheading scene (7:10), the main attraction of the film, was censored because it was deemed too realistic: it could only be shown with the consent of the local authorities. The first scenes were lost and the film begins with the thugs setting the fire.

Synopsis . (0:09) Some miscreants set fire to a farm. (01:20) Later, in their lair, they are surprised by gendarmes, in the firefight many are killed, others manage to escape. (02:24) The criminals' escape continues outside, but all of them fall felled by the police officers' shots, except for the gang leader (Manuel) who is captured alive (03:11). During the night, in the cell in which he has been locked up (03:30), he has a vision of the fate that awaits him: (03:43) the guillotine.
(04:05) The next morning the condemned man is visited by the judges and the priest who lead him to the gallows.
(05:35) In the prison yard the guillotine is being prepared, upon entering (07:10) the condemned man is shaken with terror, but justice does not wait and the sentence is soon carried out.
