This is a Far too Brief History of Mercury
Established as the Ford milline brand between Ford and Lincoln, and intended to compete with Buick and Oldsmobile, Mercury struggled with division reshuffling, platform sharing, and a general lack of focus.
While creating some appealing cars, I believe that on their cancellation the auto world shrugged their collective shoulders.
