A Fun Day In Florida's Ancient City | St. Augustine, FL

Hey Adventure Seekers! ✨

Welcome to our latest family adventure where we decided to head over to Florida’s ancient city! We’ve visited this place several times, but thought it would be a nice treat for us to take you along with us and show you what this place has to offer. So come with us on a journey filled with excitement, history, and a little bit of rope swinging.

On this adventure we decided to do something that’s been in Florida for a long time and headed down to Florida's ancient city located in St. Augustine. We’ve taken the girls here several times to get some homeschool history in, but this time we wanted to showcase what you can do here for free..

St. Augustine is a natural gem as the oldest city in the United States. The main attraction of the city is the wellconstructed Castillo de San Marcos fort. Construction on the fort began in 1672 and was completed in 1695. The Castillo de San Marcos played a critical role in several conflicts during the Spanish colonial period.

Another place that brought back some memories was seeing The Old Wooden School on George Street. Stepping into the Oldest Wooden School House transports people back to a time when education was a rare privilege. We decided not to go into it this, but saw the outside of it. The Oldest Wooden School House is more than just a historical building; it is a living museum that offers valuable insights into the early educational practices of America's oldest city.

We also headed to see the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine. It was established in 1565 by Spanish explorer Pedro Menéndez de Avilés. St. Augustine was founded as a Catholic colony, and the need for a place of worship was paramount.

One of the highlighted parts of St. Augustine was going through The Colonial Experience and seeing some of the houses that were built and seeing the blacksmith showing us how he made tools. There were other places we wanting to see, but there's always another trip! We had a wonderful time visiting St. Augustine. Being able to take the girls here and walk through the fort and see what the city has to offer was definitely fun and enjoyable.
