In this video we look at osmoregulation and antidiuretic hormone (ADH). First we explore how the secretion of antidiuretic hormone by the pituitary gland is controlled by osmoreceptor cells in the hypothalamus. We then look at how antidiuretic hormone triggers cells in the collecting ducts of the kidneys to reabsorb more water back into the blood. This includes the roles of the second messenger cyclic AMP and aquaporin proteins. Finally, we look at how osmoregulation is an example of negative feedback.
