A Mildly Chaotic First Person Drive on the Main Urban Freeway in Todos Santos (Cities: Skylines 1)

In this video, you'll take a somewhat odd drive on the TS1, the main NorthSouth urban expressway in Todos Santos, from its southern exit from the mountains to its northern termination next to the Costa Verde park.

Compression really did a number on this video unfortunately, so I apologize if it looks grainy.

ABOUT THE ROUTE

Bolstered by the same transportation package that allowed for the construction of the city's first metro, the urban portion of the Todos Santos Route 1 expressway was built in one fell swoop in 1987. It connected the existing intercity portion of the TS1 in the south to the Milla de Plata and Costa Verde districts in the north, largely following the rightofway of the former Avenida Las Palmas. No one truly loves the TS1, and its strongest critics point out that it doesn't carry significantly more traffic than Las Palmas did, all while cutting an unsightly scar through the unique karst landscape of Las Colinas and the university district.

ABOUT THE LANDMARKS

La Telaraña: This gargantuan stack interchange was built as part of the original project, connecting the urban TS1 to the preexisting TS2 which runs east to west through the southern fringes of the city. If the tall flyovers (so tall they could make a Texan urban planner blush) were removed, you could see the viaduct of the TS1 tracing a straight path over the uneven terrain up to 90ft/27m below. Even detractors admit it's an impressive way to bridge the gap between Las Colinas and San Pablo.

The Mall of Todos Santos: Built on the grave of the old logistics hub, this huge shopping mall is also home to an outdoor event space, 20story condominium and two separate office towers.

La Milla de Plata: This peninsular district used to be the "Second City" of Todos Santos known as Tierra del Puerto, historically the region's hub for ocean shipping. The opening of Puerto Nuevo across the bay, along with the decadeslong transition away from agriculture and toward tourism and finance, has seen this district morph into the dense, vertical, mixeduse heart of the city it is today. Its tallest building, visible from most of the greater Todos Santos region, is Edificio La Gloria, owned by and named for the locallyfounded, globallymarketed alcohol brand.

Todos Santos Metro Blue Line:    • Blue Line Metro  First Person Train ...

El Monstruo de Espagueti Volador: Also built as part of the original project, this convoluted interchange fuses the worst of system and service interchange into an aching mass of delicious concrete spaghetti which guides drivers on the proper path through the saucy power of Its Noodly Appendage.

ABOUT THE SERIES
On the north shores of this tropical island sprawls the metropolis of Todos Santos. In this series, I attempt to build a Latin American city that roams from the Old World casco viejo to the carcentric urbanism of the New World, primarily drawing inspiration from San Juan, Puerto Rico. I hope you’ll join me on this highdetail exploration of all the things that make us love cities.
