The Northern Virginia Model Railroaders has existed as an organization since 1949. Join me for a quick overview of the club's history and a tour of the club layout, the Western North Carolina Railroad, as it was meant to be seen.

Work on the Western North Carolina Railroad as we see it today began in the mid 1970s after the club lost its first permanent home, which had been a yard office in the Potomac Yards of Alexandria Virginia. The layout is located in the former Washington & Old Dominion Railroad station in Vienna, Virginia. The HO scale recreation of the former WNC, then Southern, now Norfolk Southern line between Salisbury, North Carolina and Asheville, North Carolina has been a continuous work in progress for the club. It has been upgraded numerous times and the club members are always looking for ways to better the layout, in appearance or function.

With the club's 75th anniversary coming up this year, let's pay a visit down south to North Carolina and see the layout as it built to be. We will follow 3 trains as they traverse the mainline between Asheville and Salisbury.
