A Morning Jam with 2 Microfreaks Bitbox Micro modular/pedal effects... and a robot.

Just a bit of an early morning jam I put together using 2 Microfreaks, a Bitbox Micro for drums (909 sample) and some effects.

A bit different from what I have been doing of late. I really wanted to try out the Bitbox Micro further as a drum machine, which is really why I got the thing. The drum samples used here are from the Roland 909 drums sampled from Ableton. The Bitbox Micro is VERY easy to use when it comes to loading samples. This was multisampled directly into the module from an output on my interface. The module does all the work!

Why would I go to the trouble of sampling a drum from a DAW rather than just use the DAW? Well, no DAW hate from me at all, but my old laptop had been struggling a LOT lately. I also love the idea of having a self contained modular setup that can handle all my effects and sample needs.

2 Microfreaks? Yep! I got one and have been so impressed by it. It is tiny and a pleasure to use and sounds great. A found another online at a great bstock price and went for it. While it isn't a bass monster or anything, I'm really quite happy with how close it can get. A bit of messing around with the noise engineering bass algorithm and I'm pretty happy. This was recorded in paraphonic mode too; it can get "bassier" when in monophonic mode, but that didn't suite this piece. So be it.

Effects are the ever trusty EHX Canyon delay (I just keep coming back to that pedal for basically everything, it's just brilliant), the AJH Lunar Module is handling the noise/distortion/overdriven sounds at the start and end (a really strange module that suits me so well; just recreates the sound of 60s/70s space capsule communications!) and everything ends up going out of the Tiptop Zverb module.

Everything recorded on the Zoom R16 digital recorder.

The robot doesn't really do anything, but I'm glad it's there.

Again, any questions, go ahead!

Either way, hopefully you enjoyed and can check out some more of my stuff.

Cheers!
