A New Way To Repair ACL Tears — Nebraska Medicine

Nebraska Medicine Nebraska Medical Center

Cheyenne Janicek knew exactly what happened.

"I heard a pop and knew what I did," she says.

Janicek got hurt while playing pickup soccer and was an athletic trainer at UNO at the time of her injury. She felt that made her the perfect person for a new kind of ACL repair called BEAR — which stands for Bridge Enhanced ACL Repair Implant.

The procedure doesn't rely on taking a graft from another part of the patient's leg. Instead, it uses an implant which provides the ideal environment for the ACL to heal itself.

Orthopaedic surgeon Matthew Tao, MD, also felt Janicek would be ideal for the procedure because of the nature of her injury.

We caught up with Janicek and Dr. Tao at various times in the past year to develop this video demonstrating her progress.
